Bill Cosby‘s attorneys are going on the offensive against the prosecution in the criminal case brought against him in Pennsylvania.

The scandal-plagued comedian’s lawyers filed legal papers Thursday calling for the dismissal of the charges against him — or, barring that, the removal of Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele from the case.

In the filing, Cosby’s attorneys claim that the former “The Cosby Show” star entered into a non-prosecution agreement with former Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor.

It was two years ago when filmmaker Ezra Edelman got the offer from ESPN Films’ senior vice president and executive producer Connor Schell:

“I want you to do a five-part movie on O.J. Simpson,” he was told.

The network has found success with its the award-winning “30 for 30” documentary series, which looks at particular sports moments and figures. But for Simpson's story, Schell wanted a deep-dive that put the life, career, and celebrity of the man under a microscope.

“I said, ‘I don’t want to do this,’” Edelman told Business Insider. “Because I lived through this and what could I say about this that someone else hasn’t said.”

Then a few days later Edelman was in L.A. and told some friends about the offer. They scolded him for not saying yes immediately. “They said to me, ‘Are you crazy?’” Edelman recalled. “Out there it’s different in terms of the story and what it means to people.”

Jermiron Morris drove a truck for a living but wanted to own his own business, so he got a degree from City Colleges of Chicago and then won a scholarship to the Illinois Institute of Technology. Morris, 36, was returning to the campus early Thursday when an acquaintance, also a student at the South Side school, beat him to death near the Keating Sports Center in the Bronzeville neighborhood, authorities said. The other student, 43, was taken into custody at the scene. "(Morris) was very ambitious and a person who yearned to mentor young men. He was a great guy,” said Kimberly Tubbs, who dated him for eight years.
